Known internationally as "James Bond Island," Khao Tapu is a striking limestone karst tower that stands prominently in the waters of Phang Nga Bay, near Khao Phing Kan. The name "Khao Tapu," which translates to "Nail Mountain," comes from its unique shape resembling a giant nail jutting out from the sea. This iconic island gained worldwide fame when it was featured in the 1974 James Bond movie, "The Man with the Golden Gun," hence the moniker "James Bond Island."

Visiting Khao Tapu is often included in boat tours of the Ao Phang Nga National Park, which usually start from Surakul Pier and take about half a day. These tours offer breathtaking views of the bay, passing by various islands and formations such as Koh Ma Chu, Tham Lod, Koh Phanak, Koh Hong, Koh Panyee, Khao Phing Kan, and finally Khao Tapu. However, due to erosion caused by seawater over the years, the submerged part of the island is significantly smaller than the upper part. To prevent any accidents, authorities have strictly prohibited tourists from getting too close to Khao Tapu.
